iOS 18: During WWDC in June, Apple plans to launch the new iOS 18 update. This time’s update, it is being said, will be the biggest iOS update in Apple’s history.
AI is currently an important focus point in the tech industry. From OpenAI to Microsoft, Google, and Meta, all the major tech players are adding and integrating new AI features into products like smartphones. Last year, Google introduced its Pixel 8 series with AI-powered features, and this year, Samsung announced AI enhancements for its Galaxy S24 lineup. However, amid all the AI discussion, Apple is lagging somewhat.
The Cupertino tech giant launched its iPhone 15 series last year with a major upgrade, but despite the emphasis on AI, no major announcements were made. However, Apple’s AI direction is going a long way. The company is reportedly gearing up for a big step up in AI announcements with the upcoming iOS 18 update.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is set to announce the iOS 18 update during WWDC in June 2024, and this time the update will be big, including several new AI-focused features for iPhones. Gurman said, “I’m told that inside the company this new operating system is viewed as one of the biggest iOS updates if not the biggest in the company’s history.”
In Gurman’s Power On newsletter, Gurman revealed that iOS 18 will bring a significant change to the iPhone, which will “fulfill many long-standing requests from users, developers, and regulators.” One of the key advancements will be the use of Generative AI, which will make Siri even more intelligent and efficient. the news came first
There was talk that Apple could use a larger language model for Siri, which would make it more helpful in handling difficult tasks, but according to Gurman, it goes further than that, indicating that iOS 18 will bring “a lot” to Siri.
According to the report, the main updates coming with iOS 18 include:
- A new version of Siri will be even more intelligent and efficient and will use a new AI system that incorporates large language models.
- AI features in the Messages app that will help “answer questions and complete sentences.”
- AI capabilities for Apple Music that can independently create playlists.
- Generative AI capabilities for iWork applications, such as Keynote and Pages. Generative AI capabilities for Xcode that can help developers “write new applications faster.”
While Apple hasn’t officially confirmed anything, we’re even hopeful that we’ll see a glimpse of iOS 18’s full potential during WWDC, including non-AI features. However, current reports and research indicate that Apple has exciting plans for AI innovations.
